I am a Vulcan, and there are those who say I possess a heart of stone. Perhaps they are right. But I take pride in my heart of stone, because it is my gift to Jim. Yes, stone seems unfeeling and cold, but it is forged in the fires that burn inside a planet's core. It does not senesce, wither, and die like the leaves on the trees; it does not decay and crumble to dust like the endless succession of living beings. It lasts, and endures, carrying within it both the memory of flames and a determination of constancy.
